compared to the 1882 print version reproduced by Doerflinger, has a chorus. Doerflinger's also provided no melody. The chorus itself is a bit strange. Mentions unknown ladies: "Mrs. McQuade" "Mrs. O'Halligan" "Jinny" and "Bridget." And the last phrase, "Fire away Bridget, I'll bully for you" doesnt make much sense to me. The whole chorus sound like it may have belong to some other song, or else this was a different song with a "Lay me Down" theme to which the present verse lyrics were fitted. ...
